“Guarding the Course”
As our children grow, through every season they are learning and changing. Always before them is a pathway filled with unknowns: beauty…mystery...challenges…CHOICES. Today we are praying with a focus on the choices our children are making and will make throughout their lives. Decision making involves an interesting process in which we first have the knowledge of needing to make the decision, then have a waiting period on a path of seeking wisdom, and finally make our decision.* It is during this waiting period on the path of seeking wisdom that we long for our children to fear God, seek God, listen to God through His word, and seek godly counsel.* While we are hoping our children will make good choices and walk with wisdom, we are also trusting that God will lead them in the way everlasting, will guard their course, and will hold victory in store for them. (*shared from Stone to Stone II by Lindsay Black).
Lord, thank you that you are patient with us as your children as we learn to trust in you. I pray that my children will learn to trust in you with all their heart and lean not on their own understanding. Help them to acknowledge you in all their ways, knowing that you will direct their paths. I pray that you will be their Shepherd and as they follow you they will come to know that your way is perfect…that your Word is flawless and trustworthy. As they confront each decision-making battle of this world and life, please arm them with strength and make their way perfect. Thank you that you hold victory in store for them! Be their shield, guard their course, and protect their way. Lord, how I long for them to be children of integrity and wisdom. Help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, to seek first His kingdom, and to have undivided, trusting hearts.
PRAYER POINTS:
Proverbs 2:1-11
“My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”
